I've been speechless for two months.  The first month I was speechless due to exhaustion.  The last month I've been speechless with wonder.  The wonder is one part omg, two parts wtf, and a healthy dose of really?!  The "really" is a result of my shock that I am living through the craziest, most intense period of my life to date, and yet the experience is so commonplace.  Look around!  This is something most humans have done or will do in their lifetime! Indiscriminately!  How can something with such an acute degree of difficulty require no pre-approval?  I feel like I'm a muggle who just learned that a parallel universe of wizardry exists.  Wizards and magic.  Right here...  on Earth...  among us.  I'm flabbergasted.  I'm speechless.  And apparently also a wizard.
By the way, A&A had babies.
In terms of other mind-blowing experiences, I got to thinking the other day about mini backpacks.  How were those ever in??  Now that we've entered a new decade, and our most recent era of collective nostalgia will likely move from the 80s to the 90s, will they make a comeback?!  Please, dear Lord, let it not be so.  I'd sooner pin condoms to my clothes, TLC style.  I'd sooner peg-leg my pants.  I'd sooner sport a SCRUNCHIE.  Just please - no resurgence of mini backpacks.

NEW YEAR, NEW UPDATES for the A&A crew!
So, A#1, I wanted to update you all on my theory about the calendar year only getting better and better as the months go by.  I'm happy to say that, in contradiction with the theory's corollary about New Year's Eve sucking, this New Year's was pretty awesome.  I wore Forever21 apparel and accessories and saw
Hang the DJ perform.  And I got to help Guitar Boy count down to the New Year for the whole bar!
Plus, this past weekend, I had a bunch of my fave peeps travel long distances to surprise me for my belated birthday.  UM, BEST SURPRISE EVER which resulted in the BEST DAY EVER.  And it was only January 8!!  So either my theory is being subverted this year, or 2011 is going to be amazing beyond my imagination.
In other updates, I had a pleasant traffic court experience as a follow-up to the speeding ticket I wrote about in October.  Remember -- the one where I cried in the parking lot of the Weanie Beanie?  And in sports fandom updates, I'm sad that Gil left the Wizards but am happy he is getting a fresh start.  I went to my first Wiz game of the season over the holidays, and am pleased to report that, as always, I got misty when they did the
kiss cam.
Finally, A&A 12 and Rotation 12 are making their way through the creative progress!  Get excited!!!

Another year, another bunch of LESSONS LEARNED!
   (1)  Leggings are always better than any other clothing option.
   (2)  You're going to like Katy Perry's latest single whether you want to or not.
   (3)  It is possible to dance while completely sober, as long as you remind yourself that everyone around you is not.
   (4)  Amtrak's rewards program is the BEST.  It is what every rewards program should be.  Seriously.
   (5)  Twitter is actually a pretty efficient way to keep up with the news.  (P.S. Follow us!  @aandadotcom!)
   (6)  Per Snowmaggedon 2010, I can spend five days completely alone in my house (with the keets, of course) and be perfectly content.
   (7)  Contrary to popular belief, Congress can and does
get things done for the American people.
   (8)  My love for scrabble has not waned like my love for sudoku did.
   (9)  Waterproof sunblock is not waterproof enough to withstand class 4 white water rapids, and ginger skin is not robust enough to withstand Central American sun.
   (10)  A&A 12 and Rotation 12 will be just as good if they are released in January as they would have been if they'd been released in December.  (Okay, I'm not certain of this YET, but I'm really hoping!)

I have a couple life of theories.  I don't know if they're based on physics, or mathematics, or are corollaries of other axioms.  But they relate to the passage of time and Adrienne V. could probably graph them using Excel.  One is that it's better to be unfortunate looking as a child, because that affords you the opportunity to only look better and better as the years go by.  The trick is not to ever peak - YOU SHOULD NEVER PEAK! - because then it's just all downhill from there.  Exhibit A:  Prince William.  Eesh.
My other life theory has to do with the calendar year.  The year only gets better and better as it goes on.  January blows, because you're coming down from the holiday high and the weather tends to be crap.  Same goes for February.  March is blah-tastic.  Things can start looking up in April, but they don't really get rolling until May.  Then it's the SUMMER, which is self-explanatory.  Then it's the fall, which is as awesome as the summer except the weather is better, the foliage is prettier, and there's a back-to-school rebirth kind of feeling in the air.  And then BAM!  Thanksgiving and Christmas.  People, we are in the SWEET SPOT!  For those of you who thrive on anticipation, we are here!  We are approaching the best days of the year!  Even the days after Christmas are okay because my birthday comes!
And then... New Year's.  Worst holiday ever.  And it begins again.  But we've still got time to enjoy the truths of my life theory before 2010 wanes - so drink it up, my lovelies!  (And enjoy the new pics!)

Fun fact about Annie D.:  she almost never cries.  Commercials don't make her cry.  Life doesn't make her cry.  Movies don't make her cry...UNLESS, of course, an animal dies in the movie.  I mean, she's not soul-less.  This has been an object of fascination for some (ahem, Susanna).  I see it more as a super-power, kind of like how she can make cell phone companies bend to her will.  Because there's one key scenario in which she can turn on the water works as convincingly as an Oscar-award-winning actress, and that's when she gets pulled over by a cop.  I've never been able to do it, because generally I'm both (a) too angry and (b) too knowingly in the wrong.  It certainly didn't happen a couple weeks ago on 695 in Maryland, which was strange, because I really didn't think I was in the wrong.  I was going with the flow of traffic on a four-lane highway!  Bite me!  But this morning--well, this morning was a breakthrough.  Barely a mile from my house, I got pulled over by the Weenie Beanie.  Right there, in front of the men in line for their morning half smoke, I lost it.  I was blathering to the point where I apologized to the cop for being a cliche.  Let me be clear that I was in the beloved 1991 cadette blue Toyota Previa van, just so you can fully appreciate the scene.  And I STILL got a ticket.  Sigh.  So now we all know:  I remain a mere mortal.

My failure to visit Pumpkinville notwithstanding, I think I have managed to back the truck up from last week's over-eagerness and begin revelling in FALL!  The leaves are turning, the days are shortening, my fridge is stocked with pumpkin cream cheese, and the schoolwork is piling up as we hit midterm season -- yep, it's fall!  So I'll be enjoying a very mini fall break with a 24-hour trip to New York City, wherein I will create an occasion to wear my fabled AUTUMN IN NEW YORK jacket.  Pale green, it really looks more like an Easter get-up, but a trench is always classic and it's been the "autumn in New York jacket" since 2002 when I purchased it, so that's what it will remain.  I will autumn up the rest of my body with my bright orange shirt that reads "My Sister is a Witch" and some FANTASTIC new Halloween socks I just received from Guitar Boy.  Two points on these items:  (1) I actually got the shirt from my sister, and every year I wear it and wonder which one of us is the witch -- me, because she bought it?  Or her because I wear it?  And (2) just so you know, the surest way to my heart is holiday-themed socks.  My mom has known this for years and Guitar Boy was a quick study.  A major bonus was when Guitar Boy got me Halloween-themed socks with KEETS on them!  MEGA-SUPER-TRIPLE SCORE!!!  So happy fall, everyone!  Go enjoy a pumpkin spice latte and think of A&A!
